Mies X King George

A re-imagined Georgian glasshouse by CAN re-connects a Grade II Listed townhouse to its garden in Highbury, North London. The adaptive reuse project replaces a dark rear addition with a lightweight, chamfered glazed enclosure hung from an expressive black structural steel frame that functions as both structure and architectural ornament. Black concertina aluminium panels form a solid plinth beneath the glass, while a bespoke glazed pocket door slides seamlessly behind an existing hundred-year-old brick garden wall to unite the open-plan interior with the newly landscaped garden. The contemporary heritage extension balances sensitive historic conservation with modern residential design
